Golden Gophers win second straight

Minnesota earned an 86-75 home victory Wednesday night over Illinois to move to 16-5 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten Conference play. Amir Coffey paced the Golden Gophers with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point range plus 5-of-5 at the free throw line. He also notched six assists and four rebounds. Jordan Murphy contributed 16 points and 10 boards. Gabe Kalscheur tallied 14 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Washington had 12 points and four assists. Daniel Oturu added 11 points and eight rebounds. Minnesota outscored the visitors 49-36 in the second half of the win. The Golden Gophers shot 30-of-60 from the field, 6-of-19 from 3-point range and 20-of-26 from the free throw line.

Boilermakers down Nittany Lions in OT

Purdue avoided an upset Thursday night as it defeated host Penn State by a count of 99-90 in overtime. The Boilermakers (15-6, 8-2) were outscored 41-35 in the second half to lead to the extra session, but then outscored the Nittany Lions 14-5 in overtime to post the win. Carsen Edwards had a dominant effort with 38 points on 12-of-24 shooting including 8-of-15 from 3-point range plus 6-of-6 at the free throw line. He also dished out two assists. Ryan Cline contributed 20 points and four assists. Trevion Williams added 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Purdue shot 32-of-58 from the field, 16-of-29 on 3-point tries and 19-of-21 at the free throw line.

Prediction:

The Boilermakers were in a letdown situation after a win over Michigan State, but luckily they didn't go so far to lose at Penn State. Expect a much better effort today at home as its elite offense goes against a Minnesota team that has struggles on the defensive end. The Golden Gophers have lost their last two road games and I expect it to become three in a row away from home after a defeat here by double digits.
