Hokies vs. Wolfpack Prediction

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack 2/2/19, Prediction & Odds

The 23rd-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack took third-ranked Virginia to overtime earlier this week in a difficult defeat. Can NC State build on that today in a home tilt versus the 12th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies?

Hokies ease past Hurricanes

Virginia Tech manufactured an 82-70 victory Wednesday night at Miami to improve to 17-3 overall and 6-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Hokies led 34-27 at halftime and continued to play well after the break. Virginia Tech shot 30-of-51 from the floor, 9-of-19 from 3-point range and 13-of-15 at the free throw line. Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the Hokies with 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting including 3-of-7 from 3-point distance. He also notched six steals, five assists and four rebounds. Ahmed Hill tallied 19 points and five boards. Justin Robinson added 17 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

NC State edged in OT

North Carolina allowed the go-ahead 3-pointer with a little over two minutes left in overtime Tuesday night in a 66-65 home loss to Virginia. Markell Johnson led the Wolfpack (16-5, 4-4) with 14 points on 3-of-11 shooting including 2-of-9 from 3-point range plus 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He also recorded six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Torin Dorn accounted for 13 points and three boards. Wyatt Walker had 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Devon Daniels added 10 points, three assists and two rebounds. NC State outscored the Cavs 32-28 in the second half to send it to the extra session, but were outscored 11-10 in overtime. The Wolfpack shot 22-of-64 from the field, 7-of-26 from 3-point range and 14-of-21 at the free throw line.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Virginia Tech

The Hokies are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games versus the ACC. Virginia Tech is 35-17-1 ATS in its last 53 games following an ATS win.

North Carolina State

The Wolfpack are 2-5 ATS in their last seven ACC games. The home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.

North Carolina State put it all together to almost down Virginia, but let's remember this is still a team that has lost four of its last seven games straight up and it could have been five defeats if not for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat Clemson at home. Virginia Tech is playing the better basketball right now with wins in its last two and I'm not going to let one strong performance sway my feelings. There could also be a letdown after a crushing loss like that.
