Northwestern vs. Purdue Pick
Will No. 25 Northwestern prove it’s a Big Ten contender tonight when it hits the road to face No. 23 Purdue at 8:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Purdue is the favorite at home in this game, as the Boilermakers are getting odds of -10 points against Northwestern. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 140.5 points. Purdue has won two straight over Northwestern, but the Wildcats are 4-2 against the spread in the last six meetings.
Northwestern has been the big surprise of the Big Ten this season, as the Wildcats are 18-4 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats have won six straight coming into this game, also covering the spread in all six games. Northwestern is 14-5 against the spread on the year and 7-2 ATS on the road. The Wildcats are averaging 75 points per game on offense while allowing 63.7 on defense. Scottie Lindsey is leading the team with 15.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, but he is out due to an illness. Vic Law is adding 14 points and 6 rebounds per game this season and will have to step up in Lindsey’s absence.
Purdue is coming off an 83-80 loss at Nebraska to drop to 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are 12-7 against the spread on the season and 7-3 ATS at home. Purdue averages 82.7 points per game on offense while the defense is allowing 66.8 per game. At home, Purdue’s defense is giving up just 61.9 per game. Caleb Swanigan is averaging 18.5 points and 12.7 rebounds per game to lead the team while Isaac Haas is adding 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He is battling a hip injury but is probable to play.
I liked Northwestern in this game, but Lindsey being out is a big blow. He is the leader of the Wildcats and I expect the team’s confidence to drop with him off the floor. Purdue is also coming off a bad road loss, so I expect Matt Painter to have his team motivated to make a statement at home tonight.
