Blue Demons stumble against Red Storm

DePaul lost by a score of 79-66 at home Saturday versus St. John's to fall to 13-7 overall and 1-6 in the Big East. The Blue Demons were outscored 45-32 in the second half after the score went to the break tied. Charlie Moore paced DePaul with 20 points on 5-of-15 shooting including 1-of-6 from 3-point range plus 9-of-10 at the free throw line. He also registered seven rebounds and five assists. Paul Reed accounted for 15 points, 12 boards, three blocked shots and two dimes. Jalen Coleman-Lands added 15 points, five caroms and two assists.

Pirates win ninth in a row

Seton Hall posted a 73-64 victory last Wednesday night at home over Providence to improve to 15-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The Pirates outscored the Friars 37-32 in the second half to pull away. Romaro Gill led Seton Hall with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting plus 1-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also racked up eight blocked shots and six rebounds. Jared Rhoden tallied 15 points and eight boards. Myles Powell had 14 points and three assists. Quincy McKnight added 11 points, eight assists, three steals and two caroms.

Prediction:

The Pirates are playing with a ton of confidence right now and have only lost once straight up at home this season, that being a mid-November 76-73 defeat against Michigan State. Seton Hall is solid offensively, but its the defense that really makes opponents frustrated. Offense is the weaker of DePaul's two ends of the court and while it only lost 74-66 at home against the Pirates a month ago, Seton Hall having home-court advantage makes this all the more difficult.
