Hawkeyes unable to hang with Spartans

Iowa suffered an 82-67 home defeat Thursday night against sixth-ranked Michigan State to drop to 16-4 overall and 5-4 in Big Ten action. The Hawkeyes led 35-31 at halftime before stumbling after the break. Luka Garza paced Iowa with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point range plus 3-of-3 at the free throw line. He also pulled down three rebounds. Tyler Cook contributed 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. Nicholas Baer added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. The Hawkeyes shot 27-of-70 from the field, 5-of-24 from 3-point distance and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Golden Gophers lose heartbreaker at U-M

Minnesota fell on a buzzer-beater Tuesday night at fifth-ranked Michigan to drop to 14-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Golden Gophers led 31-28 at halftime before the Wolverines climbed back in the second half. Jordan Murphy paced Minnesota with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting plus 5-of-8 at the free throw line. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Amir Coffey tallied 11 points and five boards. Gabe Kalscheur added 11 points in 35 minutes. The Golden Gophers shot 21-of-52 from the field including 5-of-15 on 3-point attempts plus 10-of-14 at the charity stripe.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Hawkeyes are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 road games. Iowa is 5-1 ATS in its last ix games versus the Big Ten.

The Golden Gophers are 0-4 ATS in their last four Sunday games. Minnesota is 1-6 ATS in its last seven home games.

Iowa doesn't necessarily have a lot of huge wins this season with its biggest coming against Iowa State and Nebraska, but the Hawkeyes also only have quality losses with two defeats against Michigan State plus losses to Wisconsin and Purdue squads that are better than its records' suggest. After a defeat last game, I like Iowa's prospects at bouncing back here against a Minnesota team that isn't particulary strong on either end of the floor and has dropped three of its last five. I feel like the wrong team is favored here, so take advantage.
