Terrapins ease past Wildcats

Maryland eased to a 77-66 victory at Northwestern Tuesday night to improve to 15-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten Conference. The Terrapins trailed by 14 points at halftime before rallying back by outscoring the Wildcats 51-26 after the break. Jalen Smith led Maryland with 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 2-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 9-of-9 at the free throw line. He also registered 11 rebounds and two steals. Aaron Wiggins accounted for 17 points, five boards, three assists and two steals. Anthony Cowan Jr. added 12 points and six dimes.

Hoosiers down Spartans

Indiana secured a 67-63 home victory over Michigan State Thursday night to improve to 15-4 overall and 5-3 in conference action. The Hoosiers established a 37-30 advantage at halftime en route to the win. Joey Brunk paced Indiana with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with six rebounds. Trayce Jackson Davis registered 12 points, four boards and two assists. Al Durham added 11 points and two caroms.

Prediction:

The Terrapins are nasty defensively and have seemed to right the ship after a rough stretch. I could also see Indiana having a letdown at home after its last home game was a gutty win over a well-regarded MSU squad. Maryland has had road issues this season, but perhaps getting its first straight up road victory of the season at Northwestern kicked something up and it becomes road warriors once more. The Terrapins are the better team and I'm going to take a shot here.
