Wildcats roll past Bulldogs

Villanova earned a 76-61 victory Tuesday night at home over Butler to improve to 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the Big East Conference. Jermaine Samuels paced the Wildcats with 20 points on 5-of-13 shooting including 1-of-3 from 3-point distance plus 9-of-10 at the free throw line. He also brought down seven rebounds. Saddiq Bey accounted for 14 points, six boards, three assists and two steals. Collin Gillespie registered 14 points, seven dimes and three rebounds. Justin Moore tallied 14 points, three caroms and three assists off the bench. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl added 12 points and 14 boards.

Friars fall at Pirates

Providence lost by a score of 73-64 Wednesday at Seton Hall to drop to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Friars were outscored 37-32 in the second half in the losing effort. Alpha Diallo led Providence with 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also notched eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Nate Watson added 10 points and four rebounds.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Wildcats are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite. Villanova is 2-9-1 ATS in its last 12 road games.

The Friars are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. Providence is 0-5 ATS in its last five games as a home underdog.

Villanova has played some of its best basketball of the season lately, with its win over Butler this week highlighting matters. The Wildcats have a dynamic offense and can count on production from a number of sources, making them hard to stop in any situation. The Friars have lost a couple home games straight up this season to Penn and Butler, plus have dropped three of their last four. I'm banking on Villanova avoiding the letdown spot here.
