Bulldogs cruise at Pilots

Gonzaga secured an 89-66 victory Saturday night at Portland to move to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs led 41-26 at halftime on its way to the win. Gonzaga shot 33-of-66 from the field, 11-of-31 from 3-point range and 11-of-15 from the free throw line. Rui Hachimura paced Gonzaga with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting plus 1-of-3 at the free throw line. He also contributed nine rebounds and four assists. Zach Norvell Jr. had 14 points, six boards and four assists. Brandon Clarke tallied 11 points, six rebounds and two assists. Corey Kispert contributed 11 points and five caroms. Joshua Perkins had 11 points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals. Killian Tillie had 10 points, six assists and four rebounds off the bench. Geno Crandall added 10 points and two boards as a reserve.

Broncos notch win at Pacific

Santa Clara improved to 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the WCC Saturday night with a 69-57 win at the Tigers. The Broncos trailed by nine at halftime before doubling up the hosts 42-21 over the final 20 minutes. Santa Clara shot 27-of-50 from the field, 8-of-19 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Tahj Eaddy paced the Broncos with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point distance. He also tallied four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Trey Wertz notched 15 points, five assists and three boards. Josip Vrankic accounted for 14 points, 10 caroms and two dimes. Keshawn Justice added 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench.

Gonzaga is ranked No. 1 in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency, but the strength of the Santa Clara squad is its defense. As long as the Broncos can get enough stops, I don't see Gonzaga winning by as much as this huge spread implies. While the Bulldogs should win handily, I think the Broncos should hang in enough to make its bettors happy.
