Bulldogs seek marquee road win
Mississippi State is coming off a 71-55 win at Vanderbilt this past weekend for its second straight win and to snap a 3-game failed cover streak. The Bulldogs are 14-3 on the season, 2-2 in the SEC, 2-1 on the road, 8-9 against the spread and 9-8 with the under.
The Bulldogs have been pretty solid on offense this season, averaging 79.0 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from the arc. Defensively, Mississippi State is giving up 68.1 points per game while limiting opponents to 42.5 percent shooting. Quinndary Weatherspoon is leading the team with 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while Aric Holman is adding 12.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.
Wildcats win fourth straight
Kentucky is coming off an 82-80 win at Auburn this past weekend for its fourth straight win and second straight cover. The Wildcats are now 14-3 on the season, 4-1 in the SEC, 10-0 at home, 8-9 against the spread and 9-8 with the under.
Kentucky has comparable stats to Mississippi State as the Wildcats are putting up 80.2 points per game on offense while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. Defensively, UK gives up 68.2 points per game while holding opponents to 42.1 percent shooting. Keldon Johnson is leading the team with 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while Tyler Herro is adding 13.5 points per contest.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Bulldogs are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 road games, but 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine SEC games.
The Wildcats are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 SEC games and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games against a winning team.
Kentucky has dominated this series in terms of wins and losses and covered in three of the last four meetings at Rupp Arena. The Bulldogs have some nice wins this year, but it is still hard to buy them as a legit team. They have struggled to cover in SEC play and haven’t faced the level of competition that Kentucky has throughout the season. Kentucky had a nice win at Auburn and I think they return home and prove to have too much talent for Mississippi State.
College Basketball Prediction: Kentucky -6.5
