Terrapins outlast Boilermakers

Maryland secured a 57-50 home victory Saturday over Purdue to improve to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten Conference. The Terrapins led 36-20 at halftime before holding off a comeback attempt by the visitors. Jalen Smith led Maryland with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting including 2-of-5 from 3-point distance. He also accumulated 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Donta Scott tallied 13 points and six boards. Aaron Wiggins added 12 points, seven caroms and three assists.

Wildcats fall short at Illini

Northwestern lost by a score of 75-71 Saturday at Illinois to drop to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action. The Wildcats trailed 38-34 at halftime en route to the defeat. Robbie Beran paced Northwestern with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting including 3-of-6 from 3-point range plus 2-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also brought down five rebounds. Miller Kopp accounted for 16 points and three boards. Pat Spencer had 14 points, five assists and two caroms. Ryan Young added 12 points and four rebounds.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Terrapins are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. Maryland is 1-5 ATS in its last six games as a road favorite.

The Wildcats are 9-20-1 ATS in their last 30 games overall. The home team is 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings.

The Terrapins are the undisputed better team here, but the issues are the fact that they have struggled mightily on the road lately and this is not exactly a small spread to cover. Maryland has dropped all four of its road games straight up this season and while all of those opponents were considerably better than Northwestern, I'd still rather not give the points until it proves it can play a complete game away from home.
