Rebels hammer Tigers
Mississippi recorded a big home win Wednesday night with an 82-67 triumph over 11th-ranked Auburn. The Rebels (12-2, 2-0 SEC) led 42-29 at halftime en route to the win. Mississippi shot 24-of-53 from the floor, 7-of-19 from 3-point distance and 27-of-37 on free throws. Terence Davis paced the Rebels with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point range plus 5-of-6 at the free throw line. He also had 12 rebounds and two assists. K.J. Buffen accounted for 16 points off the bench plus two steals. Dominik Olejniczak added 11 points, seven boards and two dimes.
Bulldogs have nine-game win streak snapped
Mississippi State was stunned 87-82 in overtime Tuesday night at South Carolina to fall to 12-2 overall and 0-1 in the SEC. Aric Holman paced the Bulldogs with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting including 5-of-8 from 3-point distance and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked five shots. Nick Weatherspoon accounted for 18 points, three boards, three assists and two steals. Lamar Peters tallied 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals. Quinndary Weatherspoon had 15 points, nine caroms and six dimes. Abdul Ado added 12 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Mississippi State was outscored 12-7 in the overtime session. The Bulldogs shot 29-of-54 from the field, 11-of-25 on 3-pointers and 13-of-23 at the free throw line.

Prediction:
Mississippi is on quite the roll lately and despite winning against a lot of subpar competition, the victory over Auburn validates that the Rebels are on the right path. Ole Miss comes into this contest with a ton of confidence and an offense that is basically just as good as MSU's, if only a touch behind. While the Rebels aren't as good defensively, I think they'll step up considering it's a rivalry game. I'm going with the visitors here.
