Purdue seeking big win

Purdue is riding a three-game winning streak right now, including an 86-70 win over Iowa at home last week. However, the Boilermakers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven and seeking a really marquee win. Purdue is 9-5 on the season, 2-1 in the Big Ten, 0-3 on the road, 7-7 against the spread and 7-7 with the over/under total.

The Boilermakers are putting up 78.9 points per game on offense this season while giving up just 68.8 per game on defense. However, they are allowing opponents to shoot nearly 37 percent from the arc, which is among the worst in the nation. Carsen Edwards is leading Purdue with 25.5 points per game while Ryan Cline is the only other double-figure scorer at 12.6 per contest.

Michigan State riding the wave

It would be hard to say there has been a team playing better than Michigan State over the last month. The Spartans have won eight straight while going 7-1 against the spread. That includes an impressive 86-77 win at Ohio State this weekend. MSU is 13-2 on the season, 4-0 in the Big Ten, 8-0 at home, 11-4 against the spread and 8-6-1 with the over.

MSU has one of the top offenses in the nation, putting up 87.1 points per game while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from the arc. The Spartans are giving up only 68.1 points per game on defense while holding opponents to 37.3 percent shooting. Josh Langford continues to sit out with an ankle injury while Kyle Ahrens is questionable tonight with an ankle injury. Cassius Winston is leading the team with 17.7 points and 7.6 assists per game while Nick Ward is adding 16.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Purdue

Purdue is 5-15-1 against the spread in its last 21 Big Ten games and 2-7 ATS in its last nine games following a cover.

Michigan State

Michigan State has covered the spread in six of its last seven at home and in all four Big Ten games this season.

Prediction:

The Spartans are as hot as anyone right now and they have been untouchable at home. MSU is putting up 93.6 points at home and allowing just 63.6. Purdue has been significantly worse on the road when it comes to offense, posting just 65.7 per game. MSU runs a fast tempo and shoots the ball very well. Purdue has struggled to defend the arc and the Boilermakers don’t have the scoring depth that the Spartans have. Edwards won’t be able to keep Purdue in this one.

College Basketball Prediction: Michigan State -7.5
