Badgers fall at home to Golden Gophers

Wisconsin lost for the second straight time Thursday night with a 59-52 home defeat versus Minnesota. The Badgers (10-4, 2-1 Big Ten) trailed 29-14 in a miserable first-half display and were unable to rally all the way back. Wisconsin shot 20-of-48 from the floor, 5-of-22 from 3-point range and 7-of-17 at the free throw line. Ethan Happ paced the Badgers with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting but only 1-of-7 at the free throw line. He added eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Nate Reuvers added 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Nittany Lions unable to hang with Wolverines

Penn State suffered a 68-55 loss at second-ranked Michigan Thursday night to fall to 7-7 on the season and 0-3 in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions will be without head coach Patrick Chambers tonight as he was suspended one game after shoving a player in the contest at the Wolverines. Mike Watkins led Penn State with 19 points off the bench on 8-of-11 shooting plus 3-of-5 at the free throw line. He also had 12 rebounds and two blocked shots. Lamar Stevens added 17 points, 10 boards and two dimes. The Nittany Lions were outscored 43-35 in the second half of the defeat. Penn State shot 24-of-57 from the floor, 1-of-14 from 3-point distance and 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Wisconsin

The Badgers are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. Wisconsin is 7-2 ATS in its last nine versus the Big Ten.

Penn State

The Nittany Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Sunday games. Penn State is 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight games overall.

Prediction:

Penn State might be better than people think. Sure, the Nittany Lions have lost some games recently but all have been to top-60 teams since the start of December and they've been competitive in all of them. It's basically a PSU squad learning how to win. I think the hosts can take advantage of a struggling Wisconsin team tonight and perhaps even pull off the upset, but I'd rather have the cushion of the spread knowing it's a team that has faltered late in many games.
