Tigers win conference opener

Memphis won its fourth consecutive game and American Athletic Conference opener Thursday night with an 85-74 home triumph over Wichita State. The Tigers (9-5) established a 44-32 halftime advantage on its way to the win. Memphis shot 28-of-56 from the floor, 4-of-14 from 3-point range and 25-of-31 at the free throw line. Kyvon Davenport paced the Tigers with 25 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting including 2-of-4 from 3-point range plus 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Antwann Jones tallied 16 points in 21 minutes. Jeremiah Martin added 11 points, three dimes and two boards.

Cougars cruise past Tulsa

The Cougars shot 25-of-70 from the floor, 10-of-30 from 3-point distance and 14-of-16 at the free throw line. Corey Davis Jr. paced Houston with 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting including 6-of-11 from 3-point range plus 3-of-3 at the free throw line. College Basketball Betting Trends

Memphis

The Tigers are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Memphis is 6-0-1 ATS in its last seven road games.

Houston

The Cougars are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games. Houston is 19-7-2 ATS in its last 28 games overall.

Prediction:

The Cougars have six wins against top-100 teams this season with three of them being by double digits. Memphis is on the back end of the top 100 and does have two wins over top 100 teams of its own, but both of those contests were on its home floor. The Tigers are likely to continue getting better under first-year head coach Penny Hardaway, but right now they aren't quite in the same league as Houston. Look for the Cougars to take advantage of shoddy Memphis defense and pull away here.
