Wildcats get past Musketeers

Villanova earned a 68-62 home win Monday night over Xavier to improve to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big East Conference. The Wildcats led 32-25 at halftime and held on from there. Collin Gillespie paced Villanova with 24 points on 9-of-22 shooting including 3-of-10 from 3-point range plus 3-of-5 at the free throw line. He also tallied five assists and four rebounds. Jermaine Samuels accounted for 14 points and eight boards. Justin Moore added 13 points and two boards. 

Golden Eagles struggle at Bluejays

Marquette suffered a 92-75 defeat Wednesday night at Creighton to fall to 10-3 overall and 0-1 in the Big East. The Golden Eagles trailed 48-38 at halftime and were unable to recover. Brendan Bailey paced Marquette with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting including 4-of-10 from 3-point distance. He also notched 11 rebounds and three assists. Sacar Anim contributed 18 points and four boards. Markus Howard added 18 points, four dimes and two rebounds.

Prediction:

The Wildcats have an elite offense even if it has taken a step back the last couple games. Look for Villanova to have a better offensive showing, but Marquette has plenty of offensive firepower led by Howard and can score with anyone. As long as the Golden Eagles are getting some stops, I like their chances in front of what will be a loud home crowd. Marquette has not lost yet at home this season and I am betting it will stay that way this afternoon.
