GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -Ricky Harper’s layup at the buzzer lifted NAIA Lee University to a 77-75 victory against East Carolina on Saturday night.
Lee trailed 75-72 in the final minute before Brad Harris hit a tying 3-pointer with 34 seconds remaining. East Carolina called timeout and Brandon Evans missed a jumper with 5 seconds remaining. Freddie Williams grabbed the rebound and got the ball to Harper, who hit the game-winner.
Harris finished with 21 points and Williams added 18 points for Lee (10-0), which shot 42 percent in earning its first victory of the season against a Division I team.
Jamar Abrams had 18 points and Brandon Evans added 15 for the Pirates (4-7), who have followed their upset of North Carolina State with two straight losses during a topsy-turvy debut season for coach Mack McCarthy.
Harold Griffin added 10 rebounds for Lee, which outrebounded East Carolina 45-34 and overcame 22 turnovers.
