FAIRFIELD (AP) -Mike Johnson went 1-for-2 from the foul line with 9 seconds left to lift the University at Albany over Sacred Heart 60-59 Saturday afternoon at the Pitt Center.
Trailing 56-49 with 4:23 left to play, the Great Danes (7-3) closed the game on an 11-3 run to escape with a victory in a game that was postponed from Friday due to inclement weather.
Guard Anthony Raffa scored 15 points and had eight rebounds, and Brian Connelly added 10 points for Albany. SHU (3-5) was led by freshman guard Shane Gibson with 15 points and senior center Joey Henley added 12. Senior Ryon Howard had a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Pioneers led the entire second half until Johnson went to the line with seconds to play. Albany was 11-of-17 from the foul line in the game, but 8-of-9 there in the final six minutes of play.
SHU committed 23 turnovers and was out rebounded on the offensive end 20-8.
