EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -Chris Vann scored a game-high 21 points, and Mount St. Mary’s defeated Winthrop 64-59 Tuesday night.
Vann finished 5-for-6 from three-point range. It was Vann’s 10th 20-point game in his career at the Mount.
Marcus Mitchell sank a layup with 3 minutes left to give the Mount (6-4) the lead, 58-56. A free throw by Winthrop’s Taj McCullough cut Mount St. Mary’s lead to one point, but Sam Atupem scored on a pass from the side with 1:11 left to put the Mount in the lead, 60-57.
Atupem added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Mount.
McCullough scored a team-high 19 points for Winthrop (5-5).
