PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) -Keishawn Mayes scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Marc Davis hit two free throws with 1:05 left to help Maryland-Eastern Shore defeat New Jersey Institute of Technology 46-42 on Saturday.
The Hawks (1-5) shot 26 percent from the field (12 of 46) in the first half, but overcame a 21-18 halftime deficit to give coach Frankie Allen his first victory at Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Highlanders (0-7), who set an NCAA Division I record with 29 losses in a winless 2007-08 season, lost their 40th consecutive game and 20th straight on the road. The Highlanders are 5-60 since joining Division I.
Maryland-Eastern Shore held a 40-28 rebounding advantage, shot 19 of 32 from the free throw line and scored 16 points off 16 turnovers. Neal Pitt chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks.
Jheryl Wilson led the Highlanders with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
