Lickliter, 54, spent several hours in a hospital on Thanksgiving due to a migraine headache, according to the Des Moines Register. It was not disclosed whether Lickliter’s absence Saturday was related to another headache.
Lickliter is in his third year as coach of the Hawkeyes and has a 30-41 record. He has a career record of 161-102 in nine years and was named the NABC Coach of the Year in 2007 after leading Butler to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
Chad Walthall, one of Iowa’s three assistant coaches, was named interim head coach for Saturday’s game.
