BURLINGTON, VT (AP) -Mike Trimboli and Colin McIntosh hit consecutive late 3-pointers to put Vermont ahead and the Catamounts held on for a 64-62 victory over Loyola, Md., on Saturday.
Trimboli, who finished with 12 points, gave Vermont (3-2) a 56-54 lead with his trey with 5:04 remaining. McIntosh, who also had 12 points, followed with another to make it 59-54 and then a basket to make it 61-56.
Jamal Barney scored on a layup for Loyola (2-5), but Vermont’s Marqus Blakely, who also had 12 points, scored the decisive points on a dunk to put Vermont ahead 63-58 and Nick Vier added a free throw.
Brian Rudolph hit two free throws and then a layup with 1 minute left to pull Loyola within 64-62, and after a Vermont turnover, Loyola had one last chance. But Marquis Sullivan missed an off-balance 10-foot jumper with 2 seconds left. Sullivan finished with 19 points.
