NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -Osiris Eldridge dominated with a game-high 30 points to lead Illinois State past UNC Wilmington 89-73 Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Chicago Invitational Challenge at Redbird Arena.
Illinois State (3-0) took the lead early, 8-2, but was outrun in the first period by the Seahawks (1-1), who led by as many as 10 points. The first half ended with the Redbirds trailing 41-36.
Illinois State was a different team in the second half, though, scoring 53 points to UNC Wilmington’s 32. They jumped ahead 58-57 with 11:23 left and never looked back.
Dom Johnson scored 17 for Illinois State, Anthony Slack added 15 and Levi Dyer had 12. Eldridge led the team in rebounds as well as points, racking up seven.
T.J. Carter was the point leader for the Seahawks with 19, including 11-of-14 free throws. He was followed by Daniel Fountain with 16. Vladimir Kuljanin had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Seahawks (1-1) and chipped in 14 points.
