SANTA CLARA, Calif.(AP) -Santa Clara, led by John Bryant’s double-double, beat California State University, East Bay 68-40 Friday.
Bryant scored 19 points and added 11 rebounds and two blocks during 26 minutes of play in the Broncos’ season opener.
The Broncos had four players in double figures. James Rahon scored 12, Michael Santos scored 11 and Perry Petty scored 10.
CSU East Bay went almost seven minutes without a basket in the first half, and Santa Clara had a 27-18 lead at halftime.
The Broncos opened the second half with a 15-0 run. Santa Clara’s largest lead in the game was 24 points.
The Broncos shot 59.6 percent to CSU East Bay’s 29.4 percent and outrebounded the Pioneers 40 to 20.
But the Broncos did turn the ball over 20 times, compared to 17 for the Pioneers.
