ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Michigan junior point guard Jerret Smith was suspended for Friday night’s season opener against Radford for violating a team policy regarding class attendance.
“There is a high priority of academic responsibility at this university and on this team. Jerret did not meet his obligation on that,” Wolverines coach John Beilein said in a statement Thursday. “Hopefully he will learn a valuable lesson from this and we will all move forward.”
The Wolverines don’t have much experience, losing their top four players from last year, and Smith is one of the few returnees who was a key player last season. He started 11 of 33 games as a sophomore and averaged 5.7 points and 3.4 assists.
