SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Notre Dame forward Jack Cooley had a breakthrough season last year, going from being a dependable reserve to a key player. Coach Mike Brey is depending on him to do even more this season.
Brey says Cooley already has become a better player and now he’s becoming a better leader.
Brey is counting on Cooley to lead a squad that returns five starters and adds 6-10 transfer Garrick Sherman from Michigan State and freshmen forwards Cameron Biedscheid and Zach Auguste. There are high expectations for the Irish, who enter the season ranked No. 22 and are picked to finish third in the Big East.
Brey wants the Irish aiming higher, with players talking about trying to win the school’s first Big East regular-season title.
