THREE THINGS: One of the league's two new coaches is a very familiar face with Rick Majerus returning from three seasons as a television analyst to take over at Saint Louis, where Brad Soderberg was fired after a 20-win season. The other new coach is Mark Schmidt taking over at St. Bonaventure. ... Duquesne gets a huge boost in the middle with 6-10 transfer Shawn James, who set an NCAA record when he led the nation in blocked shots (6.5) at Northeastern two season ago, now eligible. He was one of the five players shot in the on-campus incident in September 2006. ... Xavier kept coach Sean Miller with a longterm extension and the Musketeers welcome back senior guards Stanley Burrell and Drew Lavender from the team that took Ohio State to overtime in the NCAA tournament.

THREE THINGS: Wake Forest, as well as the conference, will take a while to get over the unexpected death of Skip Prosser in the offseason. He was succeeded by longtime assistant Dino Gaudio. ... North Carolina lost two of its top five scorers and two of its top three rebounders from last season but the Tar Heels, buoyed by the return of forward Tyler Hansbrough, were an unanimous pick in the preseason poll. ... Clemson has raised its victory total by six, three and six over the last three seasons but the Tigers haven't been to the NCAA tournament since 1998.

THREE THINGS: Few conferences can boast as many top returning players as the Atlantic Sun, with the eight leading scorers from last season back as well as eight of the top nine rebounders. ... The league has two new members in Florida Gulf Coast and South Carolina-Upstate but like current members Kennesaw State and North Florida they won't be eligible for the conference tournament as transitional Division I programs. ... East Tennessee State lost the tournament championship on its home court last season but the Buccaneers have conference player of the year Courtney Pigram back as well as juco transfer Kevin Tiggs, who is expected to be an impact player.

Stan Heath, who was fired at Arkansas, takes over at South Florida and will coach the league's best-kept secret, Kentrell Gransberry, the nation's leading returning rebounder (11.4). ... Seton Hall, after 22 seasons of playing home games at the Meadowlands, moves into the $370 million Prudential Center in Newark.
