CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) -Robert Carey, a former basketball and golf coach at Eastern Illinois, has died. He was 88.
He died Friday in Phoenix, the school said Wednesday.
Carey was basketball coach from 1953-64 and golf coach from 1954-77. His 1957 basketball team reached the NAIA semifinals. His golf teams played in three NAIA championships and one NCAA Division II championship. Their best finish was eighth place.
A memorial is planned for Charleston.
