LOS ANGELES (AP) -Carlin Hughes scored 16 points and Diamon Simpson added 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead St. Mary's to a 70-57 victory over Loyola Marymount University Saturday in the final regular season game for both teams.
Hughes made four 3-pointers and Simpson made 6 of 9 shots and had three blocks as the Gaels (24-5, 10-4 West Coast Conference) won their fifth in a row and six straight over the Lions.
St. Mary's finishes second in the conference and earned a bye until the semi-finals of the conference tournament next Sunday in Las Vegas.
LMU (3-27, 2-12) finishes in last place in conference and will open against San Diego in the opening round of the tournament next Friday.
