CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina could be without three of its top five scorers this weekend when the fifth-ranked Tar Heels play host to Virginia Tech.
Team spokesman Steve Kirschner said Friday that forwards Deon Thompson and Danny Green are questionable for Saturday’s game against the Hokies.
Thompson has started North Carolina’s previous 25 games and averages more than nine points, but he hyperextended his left knee in the victory Tuesday night at Virginia. He was scheduled to practice on a limited basis Friday.
Green was held out of practice with the flu. He is scoring more than 11 points per game as the Tar Heels’ sixth man.
Point guard Ty Lawson will miss his third straight game with a sprained left ankle. He injured the ankle nearly two weeks ago early in a victory at Florida State.
