NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Gary Lee scored 17 points and Neal Pitt added 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as Maryland-Eastern Shore defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology 73-67 Wednesday night.
Jamie Boyer had 12 points and Josh Bright 11 for the Hawks, who improved to 6-12.
Their balanced scoring attack overcame an outstanding individual performance by NJIT freshman Isaiah Wilkerson, who had 24 points and seven rebounds. The Highlanders, who broke a 51-game losing streak last week against Bryant, fell to 1-20.
NJIT led through much of the first half, stretching the margin to 24-18 on a layup by Teddy Schickel with 7:33 to play. But the Hawks closed out the half with a 13-3 run, keyed by two 3-pointers by Bright, to take a 31-27 lead.
After NJIT rallied to take a 45-44 lead on a 3-pointer by Wilkerson with 11:07 to go, Boyer answered with a 3-pointer that put the Hawks ahead for good.
