SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Reid Koenen scored 23 points and drilled a key 3-pointer in overtime as Texas State defeated UTSA 81-78 on Saturday.
Corey Stern added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Joel Wright had four of his 16 points in OT for the Bobcats (5-14, 1-6 Western Athletic), who had five players score in double figures.
Koenen’s 3-pointer gave Texas State a 77-76 lead with 1:03 remaining in the extra period. Michael Hale III answered with a basket for the Roadrunners (4-13, 0-7), but Wright put Texas State ahead for good with a three-point play with 34 seconds left, and Stern added a free throw.
Hale III, who had 33 points and nine rebounds, had a shot to tie at the buzzer, but his 3-point attempt missed.
Kannon Burrage added 25 points for UTSA.
Koenen shot 7 of 9 from the floor, including 5 of 7 from behind the arc. Phil Hawkins scored 13 points and Wesley Davis 10 for Texas State.
