OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -Former MVP Steve Nash left the Phoenix Suns’ game against Oklahoma City in the first quarter Monday night with back spasms and was not expected to return.
Nash played just over nine minutes before being replaced by Leandro Barbosa. He had yet to take a shot but had recorded two assists.
It’s the second game this season Nash has left because of back spasms. He also exited in the final 5 minutes of a 105-92 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 20.
Five days later in the Suns’ last visit to Oklahoma City, Nash began a hot stretch by scoring 20 points and recording season-highs with 15 assists and eight rebounds in leading Phoenix back from a 16-point deficit for a 99-98 win.
Since then, Nash was averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 assists over his last 12 games. He averaged 13.5 points and 7.6 assists in his first 13 games of the season.
