BOSTON (AP) -Celtics guard Ray Allen was not expected to play in Friday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks because of a sore right ankle – the first time any of Boston’s new Big Three has been out of the starting lineup.
Allen was injured against Charlotte on Nov. 24 but had started all 20 games this season, along with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
“He wants to play, but we’ve got a lot of games left,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said, adding that Allen might sit out Sunday’s game against Toronto. “If he keeps playing, he keeps doing that routine, I don’t think that helps it.”
Allen has averaged 19.2 points and 38.7 minutes a game this season while helping the Celtics win 18 of their first 20 games.
