MIAMI (AP) -Pistons guard Richard Hamilton missed Detroit’s season-opener at Miami on Thursday because of what the team called “a family matter.”
Rookie Arron Afflalo started in Hamilton’s place.
Hamilton was expected to rejoin the Pistons in Orlando on Friday. He averaged a team-high 19.8 points last season.
Miami also was without its starting shooting guard for the opener; Dwyane Wade (knee, shoulder) isn’t expected back for a couple more weeks, at least. Joel Anthony and Earl Barron were the other Heat inactives.
Rodney Stuckey (broken left hand) and Cheikh Samb joined Hamilton on Detroit’s inactive list.
