Floppers beware.
The NBA is set to open its season with three games on Tuesday night. One of the points of emphasis this year is getting rid of the flopping that seemed so prevalent throughout the playoffs last season, with players literally taking a dive in hopes of a foul call on the other team.
The league instituted a new set of guidelines this fall aimed at curtailing the tactic. Officials will review game tapes and issue a warning the first time they see a player try to dupe a referee into calling a foul by embellishing contact. After that, the fines start coming, ranging from $5,000 for the second offense up to $30,000 for the fifth.
