GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -The New York Knicks signed first-round draft pick Wilson Chandler, the No. 23 overall selection, on Friday.
The 6-foot-8 Chandler played two seasons at DePaul, averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds. He started all five games for New York’s team in the Las Vegas summer league, scoring 13.4 points per game and shooting 51 percent from the field.
But playing time could be tough to come by. His signing gives the Knicks 16 players under contract, with second-rounder Demetris Nichols still to be considered. NBA teams can only carry 15 players.
“I’m not worried about it,” Chandler said at the Knicks’ practice facility, dressed in his uniform while taking part in the rookie photo shoot. “As long as I come in and I contribute in some way, I’ll be satisfied as long as we win.”
Chandler will make a little less than $1 million in each of his first two seasons. The Knicks hold one-year options for his third and fourth years.
