OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -The Golden State Warriors signed first-round pick Marco Belinelli on Monday.
Belinelli was the 18th overall pick in last month’s draft after five professional seasons in his native Italy, where the swingman negotiated a buyout last week to get out of his Italian contract.
The Warriors refused to release terms of his NBA contract, but Belinelli will make nearly $2.8 million in salary over the next two seasons, according to the league’s rookie pay scale.
Belinelli was outstanding while playing for the Warriors’ entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas earlier in the month, highlighted by a 37-point debut against the Hornets. He averaged 22.8 points and 2.5 assists in four games.
