LAS VEGAS (AP) -Kevin Durant missed the Seattle SuperSonics’ summer league game on Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks to attend the taping of the ESPY awards in Los Angeles.
Durant will return to the team Thursday and is scheduled to play in Seattle’s final two games on Friday and Sunday, team spokesman Kurt Fedders said.
Durant, the second overall pick in last month’s draft, was nominated for three ESPY awards. He averaged 25.8 points as a freshman at Texas and won national player of the year honors.
The 6-foot-9 swingman is averaging 17.5 points in Seattle’s first two games, but has shot 9-of-36 and the Sonics have dropped both.
Fedders said Durant’s appearance at the awards ceremony was planned before the team arrived in Las Vegas.
Top pick Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers also missed his team’s game Wednesday night for the taping. He is expected to miss the rest of Portland’s games because he needs a tonsillectomy.
