NEW YORK (AP) -The New York Knicks’ injury list grew even longer Monday night, when rookie Renaldo Balkman joined Stephon Marbury on the sideline for a game against the Detroit Pistons.
Balkman, whose playing time has increased in recent weeks because of all New York’s injuries, had a stomach virus. Barely hanging on in the playoff race, the Knicks were without Marbury for the second straight game because of a sprained right big toe, which may also keep him out of Tuesday’s game at Chicago.
“I’m hoping by the end of the week,” Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. “I don’t know if he’ll go tomorrow, either. But I’m hoping by the end of the week.”
The Knicks were already without Jamal Crawford (ankle surgery) and Quentin Richardson (back surgery). David Lee was hoping to play, but he has been limited by pain in his right leg when he has played.
Steve Francis was in uniform after missing the last five games with a sprained right ankle.
