CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -The Sacramento Kings were without top scorer Kevin Martin due to illness and fellow starter Andres Nocioni because of a lingering quadriceps injury for Wednesday’s game against Charlotte.
Martin, averaging 24.2 points a game, first started feeling ill before Monday’s loss to Atlanta, when he scored 31 points.
“He played through it but I think it came down on him in the travel here and this morning,” said coach Kenny Natt, who told Martin to stay behind at the team hotel. “He has a bug.”
Nocioni, averaging 10.9 points, has been playing with tendinitis in his right quadriceps that flared up after the Atlanta game. Natt said Nocioni will be listed as day-to-day.
Rashad McCants started at shooting guard for Martin, and Francisco Garcia got the nod at Nocioni’s spot at small forward for the Kings, who entered the night with the NBA’s worst record.
