Spurs heating up
The Spurs are coming off a 111-103 win over Denver at home on Wednesday for their fourth win in five games. They have also covered the spread in four of their last five. San Antonio is 19-16 overall, 5-11 on the road, 19-15-1 against the spread and 19-15-1 with the over.
San Antonio is getting better on offense. The Spurs are now the top-shooting team in the NBA from the 3-point line (40.0 percent) and the free-throw line (82.6 percent). As a team they average 111.3 points per game. Defensively, the Spurs are giving up 109.3 points per game while opponents shoot 46.3 percent against them. DeMar DeRozan is leading the team with 23.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game while LaMarcus Aldridge is adding 18.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest.
Nuggets trying to avoid skid
The Nuggets are coming off road losses to the Clippers and Spurs over the last week. However, they had won four straight at home prior to that. Denver is now 21-11 on the season, 13-3 at home, 19-13 against the spread and 19-12-1 with the under.
Denver is being led by its defense this year, allowing just 104.5 points per game while holding opponents to 32.4 percent shooting from the arc and 45.1 percent from the field. Offensively, the Nuggets are putting up 109.8 points per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor. Injuries have been an issue for Denver this season, but it hadn’t stopped the Nuggets from winning until recently. Isaiah Thomas, Will Barton, Paul Millsap and Garry Harris are all out into next month with injuries. Nikola Jokic is leading the team with 17.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game while Jamal Murray is adding 17.4 points and 4.9 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
San Antonio
The Spurs are 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 games overall, but just 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 road games.
Denver
The Nuggets have covered the spread in seven straight home games and in 11 of their last 15 overall.
Prediction:
While the Spurs picked up a win on Wednesday, I see the opposite tonight. Denver has been great at home all year and has managed to overcome their injuries before. San Antonio is hot right now, but most of the success has come at home. They have had just two road games in their last 10. Going to Denver should be a challenge that the Spurs aren’t quite ready for right now.
