Rockets on a hot streak
Houston is playing some solid basketball this last week, winning four straight while covering the spread in three straight road games. The Rockets are 21-9 on the year, 11-5 on the road, 15-15 against the spread and 17-13 with the under.
The Rockets remain one of the top offensive teams in the NBA, averaging 120.2 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Defensively, Houston is allowing 114.4 points per game while opponents shoot 45.9 percent against them. James Harden is leading the team with 38.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.4 assists per contest. Russell Westbrook is adding 23.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.
Warriors on surprise win streak
It’s been a tough season for the Warriors, but they are coming off back-to-back wins over New Orleans and Minnesota, and are seeking a third straight win for the first time this season. Golden State is 7-24 on the season, 4-10 at home, 14-17 against the spread and 17-14 with the under.
Golden State is putting up just 104.9 points per game this season while shooting only 43 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from the arc. Defensively, Golden State is allowing 113.3 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47.3 percent from the field and 39 percent from the arc. Injuries have plagued Golden State all season. Klay Thompson hasn’t suited up at all and Stephen Curry has missed most of the season. Kevon Looney is also out today due to an abdominal injury. D’Angelo Russell is leading the team with 22.4 points and 6.2 assists per game. Alec Burks is adding 15.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Houston
The Rockets are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite, but 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.
Golden State
The Warriors are 17-36-1 against the spread in their last 54 home games and 11-29-1 ATS in their last 41 games following a win.
Prediction:
Houston ran over Golden State at home back on Nov. 6, 129-112. The Rockets have been a team that have played down to competition at times, but we have seen them look really good on this road trip and take care of business against lesser opponents like the Suns and Kings. The Warriors have played well in recent days, but against some bad teams. Golden State is just hopelessly outmatched here and Houston shouldn’t be lacking in motivation to cover this big spread. This is a major game on Christmas Day, so I expect Harden and Westbrook to come out and make a statement, taking out past playoff frustrations out on a weakened Golden State team.
NBA Prediction: Houston Rockets -11
