Spurs can’t find consistency
The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 131-118 win at home over the Blazers on Sunday, but they haven’t won back-to-back games in weeks. San Antonio is 11-12 overall, 11-12 against the spread and 14-8-1 with the over. The Spurs are just 1-3 ATS in their last four games.
San Antonio is usually known for defense, but the Spurs are struggling this year on that side of the floor. They are giving up 112.3 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 48.1 percent. On offense, San Antonio is putting up 109.4 points per game. They currently lead the NBA in 3-point shooting at 38.9 percent. DeMar DeRozan is playing well with his new team, averaging 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. LaMarcus Aldridge is adding 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.
Jazz return home
Utah has played five of its last six on the road and they are 3-3 in those six games. The Jazz are coming off a 102-100 loss at Miami on Sunday to drop to 11-13 on the season. They are also 11-13 against the spread and 15-9 with the over. Utah is 3-2 ATS in its last five games.
The Jazz haven’t been able to find a lot of offensive flow this season. They are putting up just 105.7 points per game and shooting only 32.6 percent from the arc. Defensively, the Jazz are holding opponents to just 108 points per game despite allowing opponents to shoot 47.4 percent against them. Donovan Mitchell is putting up 21.4 points and 3.7 assists per game to lead the Jazz while Rudy Gobert is putting up 15.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
San Antonio
San Antonio is just 6-16 against the spread in their last 22 road games and 0-7 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record.
Utah
The Jazz are 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 home games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games against a team with a losing road record.
Prediction:
These two teams have been disappointing thus far, but the Spurs struggles are somewhat expected while working in a new leader like DeRozan. Utah hasn’t had to work in a lot of new pieces. The Jazz just seem to not be clicking like they were a year ago. The Spurs have arguably the best coach in the NBA and I think anytime you can get them with that many points, it’s a bonus. The Spurs still have the talent, it’s just a matter of execution. That execution should continue to improve with each week. They look solid against the Blazers and I think they build on that tonight.
NBA Prediction: San Antonio Spurs +8.5
