Hawks hope to take next step
Atlanta did not necessarily win a lot of games last season as its 29-53 record shows, but it was more often than not a fun product to watch led by young studs Trae Young and John Collins. The Hawks will rely on those two even more this season, while the additions of Evan Turner as well as Jabari Parker add some spark to the rotation. The ageless Vince Carter is also still around to provide invaluable leadership to the young core. High draft pick Cam Reddish might take a while to fully develop, but he has all the tools and will certainly have his moments as a rookie. This Atlanta team is not expected to make the postseason, but with the pressure off and a better roster the opportunity is there to make considerable strides.
Drummond has monster night in win
Detroit opened its season Wednesday night with a 119-110 victory at Indiana. The Pistons outscored the Pacers 36-24 in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Andre Drummond had a huge night to lead the way as he scored 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting including 8-of-10 at the free throw line to go with 23 rebounds, four blocked shots, three steals and two assists. Luke Kennard poured in 30 points off the bench while also contributing three rebounds and two dimes. Derrick Rose added 18 points, nine assists and two boards off the bench in his Detroit debut.
NBA Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Hawks are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. Atlanta is 17-7 ATS in its last 24 games overall.
Detroit
The Pistons are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games. Detroit is 1-4 ATS in its last five games versus the Eastern Conference.
Prediction:
The Pistons are on a back-to-back and are without star Blake Griffin, although Drummond definitely stepped up in his absence last night. But Griffin being out is going to hurt far more often than not and the Hawks will certainly be the more rested team here. Detroit has struggled the last couple years against Atlanta, only covering the spread once in the last five meetings. I’m going to bet on that being once in six tries.
