The New York Knicks will be double-digit underdogs tonight at the San Antonio Spurs as both squads open the season. Can San Antonio get the job done as big favorites?

Knicks continue rebuild
New York struck out in free agency as its original plan of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving was derailed when the former injured himself in the NBA Finals and eventually signed with Brooklyn with this season being a lost cause. The Knicks did sign forward Julius Randle and center Bobby Portis, plus point guard Elfrid Payton. But overall there is not much to move the needle as New York is expected to be one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference. There is a decent young core of guards plus center Mitchell Robinson, however, so the chance is always there to surprise some folks.
Spurs look to compete for playoff spot
San Antonio used a strong late-season run to make the postseason and gave Denver a strong series before ultimately falling in seven games. Young, promising point guard Dejounte Murray signed a big extension and the Spurs know they can trust the likes of DeMar DeRozan plus LeMarcus Aldridge to stuff the stat sheet. While San Antonio will certainly be competent and competitive, the question will be how much it is possible to climb the ladder in the Western Conference?
NBA Betting Trends
New York
The Knicks are 19-39 ATS in their last 58 games overall. New York is 1-4 ATS in its last five games overall.
San Antonio
The Spurs are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games. San Antonio is 13-5 ATS in its last 18 games versus the Atlantic Division.
Prediction:
San Antonio is the much better and more cohesive team here, while also playing at home. The Spurs lost by 12 at the Knicks last year, but returned the favor with a 109-83 home win over New York. While it might be a little more challenging this time around, I still expect a double-digit win by the hosts.
