J.R. Smith set to return to Cavs
CLEVELAND, OH (The Spread) - J.R. Smith is heading back to the Cavaliers on a two-year deal.
Smith will sign a two-year deal to return to Cleveland, with the first year worth $5 million. The 29-year-old wrote on Instragram that after testing the market, he decided to pursue an NBA championship rather than take more money elsewhere.
"When I opted out of my contract, I wanted to understand the landscape of the NBA and where I fit best," Smith wrote. "The Cavaliers had things they needed to do in order to piece together a championship caliber roster. I ended up deciding that instead of potentially securing a larger deal elsewhere, I wanted to rejoin an incredible organization in pursuit of the ultimate goal, an NBA championship."
If he wants to win a title next year, Smith chose the best team to do it with, at least based on the odds. According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Cavs are 5/2 favorites to win the 2016 NBA Championship.
