Cavs on the verge of signing Jefferson
CLEVELAND, OH (The Spread) - Richard Jefferson is close to signing with the Cavaliers according to ESPN.com.
Jefferson committed to re-sign with the Mavericks earlier this month but changed his mind in recent days and is now finalizing a one-year deal for the veteran minimum to sign with the Cavs instead. Apparently spurning the Mavs has become a theme this offseason, although Mark Cuban said that he spoke with Jefferson about his change of heart and was not blindsided (unlike what happened with DeAndre Jordan).
"He called and talked to me," Cuban told ESPN. "RJ said he had an opportunity with an Eastern Conference team. He said he would honor what he [originally agreed to with the Mavs] but thought the other was a better fit. I told him I was OK with it and understood."
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cavs remain 11/4 favorites to win the 2016 NBA Championship.
