How good will Nets be next season?

NBA Future Odds: Are Brooklyn Nets smart longshot wager to win title?

The Brooklyn Nets made the biggest splash in NBA free agency Sunday with the signings of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. With Durant set to miss all of the 2019-20 season, can Brooklyn still make a run at the NBA title with Irving leading the charge?

According to oddsmakers, the Nets have 30/1 odds to win the NBA championship next year. A full list of teams and their odds to win the NBA title can be found at our NBA Future Odds Page

The Nets took a big step forward last season as they made the postseason, where they were dispatched in five games by the Philadelphia 76ers. It looked promising early in the series as Brooklyn won the series opener on the road by a count of 111-102, but then proceeded to drop the next four games.

With a nice young core, the Nets understood adding a star or two would be crucial for the future of the franchise. Brooklyn's front office did so in spectactular fashion with the signings of Irving and Durant, but the true impact won't be seen until the 2020-21 season when that duo will finally play together after Durant's recovery.

Brookyn also sent D'Angelo Russell to the Warriors, which freed up money and also solved the question of usage rate distribution as Irving and Russell are both ball-dominant. The Nets probably need to make another move or two if they want to compete for a title this season, but Irving is capable of making everyone around him better when he is focused. Look for Brooklyn to make some noise in the East and if you want take a longshot bet on them to win an NBA title, there are worse ways to spend your money.
