76ers get back on track
After a couple of ugly performances in Games 4 and 5, Philadelphia bounced back in a big way in Game 6 at home, picking up a 112-101 victory to force Game 7. Philly is now 58-35 overall, 23-23 on the road, 45-48 against the spread and 47-46 with the over.
Game 6 wasn’t actually as close as the score indicated, as the Raptors picked up points late to get it down to 11 points. Joel Embiid finally looked like his old self on the floor, putting up 17 points with 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Those aren’t eye-popping stats, but his movement on defense impacted Toronto a lot. Jimmy Butler continued to lead the team in scoring with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Ben Simmons added 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Raptors get humbled
Toronto looked as if it had figured the 76ers out with the 3-2 series lead, but Philadelphia overwhelmed the Raptors from the start of Game 6 and now Toronto finds itself having everything on the line tonight. Toronto comes into tonight 65-28 overall, 36-11 at home, 44-49 against the spread and 47-43-3 with the over.
The Raptors really struggled from the outside in Game 6, going just 9 of 36 from the arc. Kawhi Leonard still put up 29 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, but his supporting cast once again let him down. Pascal Siakam was solid with 21 points, but Kyle Lowry had just 13 points and Marc Gasol added only seven points and three rebounds in 36 minutes of action.
NBA Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The 76ers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 conference games, but just 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games following a double-digit win.
Toronto
The Raptors have covered the spread in six straight games following a loss of more than 10 points and they are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
Prediction:
This series has been basically about two things. The first is Embiid’s health. The second is about Toronto’s role players. In Philly’s three losses, Embiid has failed to get double-digit rebounds and didn’t get to the free-throw line. Both of those things weren’t the case in Game 6. If he brings that level of play tonight, Philly can definitely win outright. Toronto will need someone other than Leonard and Siakam to step up tonight. Lowry seems like a logical option. He had 19 points in Game 5 and 20 in Game 2. My concern is Lowry has a history of going into a shell in big playoff games. Toronto has struggled to get to that next stage and that is a systemic problem in the franchise. Philly certainly hasn’t gotten to that level often either, but this is a new batch of players and they can shake that old culture tonight. I think Embiid and company will play with the urgency that has been lacking in other games in this series and at least take this game down to the final possession.
