Spurs get the Game-1 upset
San Antonio shocked Denver in Game 1 on Saturday, earning a 101-96 victory at Denver. The Spurs have now won four straight games overall and are 49-34 on the season, 17-25 on the road, 44-37-2 against the spread and 43-39-1 with the over.
The Spurs continued to shoot well from the arc in Game 1, going 7 of 15 from 3 as a team while shooting 40 of 83 from the field and committing just 11 turnovers. LaMarcus Aldridge had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Spurs while DeMar DeRozan added 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Rudy Gay added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Nuggets suffer surprising home loss
Denver suffered a surprising loss at home to open the playoffs on Saturday for their third loss in four games. The Nuggets are 54-29 on the season, 34-8 at home, 42-41 against the spread and 48-34-1 with the under.
The Nuggets struggled shooting in Game 1, going just 37 of 88 from the field and an even worse 6 of 28 from the arc. Nikola Jokic was quiet with his scoring, putting up just 10 points. He did have a triple-double of 14 rebounds and 14 assists. Gary Harris led the Nuggets in scoring with 20 points while Will Barton had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
NBA Betting Trends
San Antonio
The Spurs are 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven following a win.
Denver
The Nuggets are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games and 0-8 ATS in their last eight conference quarterfinal games.
Prediction:
The Nuggets haven’t been winning by big margins for most of the last month and their inconsistent shooting reared its head in the loss to the Spurs in Game 1. San Antonio is playing some pretty good basketball right now and they have the better coach. I think that will allow them to keep most of the games in this series pretty competitive. I don’t see Denver being able to blow out the Spurs tonight they way they are playing right now.
